Happy 10th Tidewater Comicon!

Hello everyone, it has been quite some time since I have updated my blog, and I am excited to share with you all my experiences as a photographer and cosplayer at Tidewater Comicon.

Tidewater Comicon happened on May 18 and 19 in my hometown in Virginia Beach at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. I have been attending the convention since it’s inauguration and this year was special, celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary. Every year I attended, the event grew in attendance size, and this year, as years before, broke records.

Due to recovering from events in helping my family and balancing my career as an in-home care provider of my brothers, I decided to take things easy for my photography and mostly cosplay for the convention. On my social media pages, I did announce that I would have my camera with me in the event there are those who wanted to have pictures taken. It was a more lax and fun approach for me to delve into coming back to my creativity with my camera. For cosplays, I carefully chose fun yet comfortable costumes that were also easier for me to maneuver even with my camera in tow. On Saturday, I cosplayed as Yuffie from Final Fantasy VII Intergrade and Sunday as Takemi from Persona 5.

The only thing to really “dampen” the mood was the forecast of rain on the first day of the convention. I was thankful my roommate, @rurounichan_cosplay (IG) and I were able to leave our apartment early to get to the convention center - we were fortunate to have a parking spot immediately next to the one of the side entryways. Despite the weather, hundreds of attendees - families, cosplayers, folks from near and far - came to attend this fantastic event.

Here are a couple of favorite shots taken from my camera during the event:

@makochancosplay (IG) as Jester from Critical Role

@colorful_ami (IG) as Caleb from Critical Role

@rurounichan_cosplay as Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII Remake

@kingbenji_banks (IG) as Arlong from One Piece

@yoelaina (IG) as Daisy Mae from Animal Crossing: New Horizons

It truly was a lot of fun attending Tidewater Comicon this past weekend, and best believe I will be returning in the future. I already look with anticipation returning to the venue in August for Superstar Anime, right on my birthday weekend!

In a future blog, I will share with you my tips and tricks that will help make attending a convention - local or distant - a fun experience without breaking your wallet!

Until next week!

Love and belief,

Jenni xoxo
